The Problem:

Strategic Career Management was invited to deliver one-on-one leadership coaching to a Western Australian mid-level leader in an international consulting firm.  The commitment to the coaching program was driven by the organisation’s CEO who, having benefited from coaching himself, identified an opportunity to build on an already successful organisation by investing in their high-value personnel.

The goal of the coaching program was to encourage mindful self-reflection, build leadership skills and safeguard continued discretionary effort through effective leadership development.

Planning &

As part of the program, high potential leaders were invited to participate by management. Participants completed pre-program psychometric assessments to identify key areas of focus for the program and triangular discussions were held with their coach and manager to agree program focus areas.  One leader was located in Perth and we were invited to provide local coaching expertise as part of the larger program.

The Program:

Strategic Career Management offered insight and an independent sounding board and supported the local leader to:

  • Engage in self-reflection and gain greater self-awareness, clarity and focus on strengths and areas for development.
  • Set goals for personal change and gain suggestions for follow-up or evaluation.
  • Develop practical strategies for personal growth.
  • Implement, review and refine strategies.

The Results:

The leader reported increased optimism and self-awareness.  He also marked a positive change regarding risk assessment and effective decision making. The coaching contributed to the leader making a significant decision to transfer from the service organisation to a client-based role to broaden their practical experience. This move was achieved with the full support of the consulting firm and continuation of the professional relationship.
